New Hampshire Sheriff Candidate Says He’s Willing to Use Deadly Force to Stop Abortions

bebinn:

Republican candidate for Hillsborough County Sheriff, Frank Szabo, said today that he would arrest any doctor performing elective abortions in his jurisdiction. Further, he wouldn’t be opposed to using deadly force:

“I would respond specifically by saying that if someone is under threat, a full-grown human being, if they’re under threat, what should the sheriff do? Everything in their power to prevent them from being harmed,” he said.

When pressed about what he would do if he learned that a doctor was about to perform an elective abortion, Szabo replied he would do what it took to prevent that from happening.

“Absolutely,” he said. “Well, I would hope that it wouldn’t come to that, as with any situation where someone is in danger, but again, specifically talking about elective abortions and late-term abortions, that is an act that needs to be stopped.”

Even if the abortion was legal in the state of New Hampshire, Szabo says that as sheriff, he would not need to answer to any higher authority or public official.

While Szabo has no law enforcement background, he claims his business experience qualifies him for the job.

Are lots of fetuses making 911 calls these days?

I mean, I knew cell phone owning kids were getting younger and younger, but GEEZ.

Love,

Rabble

How precisely does one go about arresting someone who isn’t doing anything illegal?

He doesn’t intend to arrest them. He intends to shoot them in the head under the guise of “deadly force” because they are a threat to fetuses.

You can’t arrest someone if you kill them.

I just want to reiterate something that I did not put in my original reblog: This guy is a terrorist and he is running for a position in which he would be given weapons and the authority to use them.

This man is a terrorist. His goal is to scare and threaten abortion providers up to the point of killing them in order to stop them from providing abortions.

He is a terrorist.

Love,

Rabble

The due-process-free assassination of U.S. citizens is now reality

After several unsuccessful efforts to assassinate its own citizen, the U.S. succeeded today (and it was the U.S.). It almost certainly was able to find and kill Anwar al-Awlaki with the help of its long-time close friend President Saleh, who took a little time off from murdering his own citizens to help the U.S. murder its. The U.S. thus transformed someone who was, at best, a marginal figure into a martyr, and again showed its true face to the world. The government and media search for The Next bin Laden has undoubtedly already commenced.

What’s most striking about this is not that the U.S. Government has seized and exercised exactly the power the Fifth Amendment was designed to bar (“No person shall be deprived of life without due process of law”), and did so in a way that almost certainly violates core First Amendment protections (questions that will now never be decided in a court of law). What’s most amazing is that its citizens will not merely refrain from objecting, but will stand and cheer the U.S. Government’s new power to assassinate their fellow citizens, far from any battlefield, literally without a shred of due process from the U.S. Government. Many will celebrate the strong, decisive, Tough President’s ability to eradicate the life of Anwar al-Awlaki - including many who just so righteously condemned those Republican audience members as so terribly barbaric and crass for cheering Governor Perry’s execution of scores of serial murderers and rapists - criminals who were at least given a trial and appeals and the other trappings of due process before being killed.

This. Every single word of this. I condemn this fully. Don’t give me any of this “But he was a terrorist!” bullshit. So was Timothy McVeigh. We had boxes upon boxes of evidence against McVeigh. He killed Americans on American soil. And he still received a full trial and appeals under the law.

And what about “American Taliban” John Walker Lindh? He was an American citizen, captured as an enemy combatant who admitted to fighting alongside the Taliban and aiding Al-Qaeda. He was given a plea deal, partially to avoid the controversy of his confession being suppressed in court due to it being obtained “under duress”. However, he was granted the right to a trial, after being indicted, and was given the right to accept or reject a plea deal.

The Obama administration was considering indicting Anwar al-Awlaki. I suppose assassination was the easier route. Note he was “believed” to have shifted his focus from “encouraging attacks” to “directly participating” - but it’s not like any of that evidence will ever be presented in a court of law.

I condemn the Obama administration’s actions. If you condemn the actions of the Bush administration in regards to warrantless wire-tapping and other violations of due process and civil rights, then you must condemn the assassination of Anwar al-Awlaki. It doesn’t matter that he may have been guilty of everything he was suspected of and more. He was an American citizen, deserving of due process before being deprived of his liberty, and there isn’t a deprivation of liberty more permanent than assassination.

Planned Parenthood Gets Firebombed, Nobody Cares

Guess the right wing only froths at the mouth when the terrorists hit something super important or that would make a really good talking point. Guess they don’t care about all domestic terrorism, particularly when it’s against something they (illogically) hate.

Idiots.

Why isn’t this on the front page of every US newspaper? CNN and New York Times have nothing on their online front pages. I mean DAMN.

I… what.  What.

Norway horror: 80 die in camp shooting, 7 in blast

the-madame-hatter:

cognitivedissonance:

A homegrown terrorist set off a deadly explosion in downtown Oslo before heading to a summer camp dressed as a police officer to commit one of the deadliest shooting sprees in history, killing at least 80 people as terrified youths ran and even swam for their lives, police said Friday.

A suspect in the shootings, and the Oslo explosion that killed seven people, was arrested. Though police did not release his name, Norwegian national broadcaster NRK identified him as 32-year-old Anders Behring Breivik and said police searched his Oslo apartment overnight. NRK and other Norwegian media posted pictures of the blond, blue-eyed Norwegian.

A police official said the suspect appears to have acted alone in both attacks, and that “it seems like that this is not linked to any international terrorist organizations at all.” The official spoke on condition of anonymity because that information had not been officially released by Norway’s police. “It seems it’s not Islamic-terror related,” the official said. “This seems like a madman’s work.”

The official said the attack “is probably more Norway’s Oklahoma City than it is Norway’s World Trade Center.” Domestic terrorists carried out the 1995 attack on a federal building in Oklahoma City, while foreign terrorists were responsible for the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

There is nothing to say here other than to echo the words of Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg:

“I have message to those who attacked us. It’s a message from all of Norway: You will not destroy our democracy and our commitment to a better world.”

Christ. Those poor people. Those poor kids.

Alert: Terrorists look to implant bombs in humansBy EILEEN SULLIVAN  Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) - Airlines are being warned by the government that terrorists are considering surgically hiding bombs inside humans to evade airport security.
As a result, travelers may find themselves subjected to more scrutiny when flying in the heart of summer vacation season, especially to the U.S. from abroad.
The FBI and Homeland Security Department sent a memo to security officials around the country on Wednesday about “body packing,” describing it as a “criminal tactic with possible terrorist application.” …Bombs-in-the-body is not a new idea, but recent intelligence indicates a fresh interest in using this method. People-scanning machines in airports aren’t able to detect explosives hidden inside humans.

Awesome. Every single time we come up with some new “security” idea, it’s only a matter of time before someone will figure out a way to beat it. The illustration I posted for this may be satirical, but at what point do we decide enough is enough? Are we going to see body checks to look for recent surgical scars? Strip searches? Cavity searches?
Here’s some perspective:
Lifetime odds of causes of death
Heart Disease:  1-in-5
Cancer:  1-in-7
Stroke:  1-in-23
Accidental Injury:  1-in-36
Motor Vehicle Accident: 1-in-100
Intentional Self-harm (suicide): 1-in-121
Assault by Firearm:  1-in-325
Fire or Smoke:  1-in-1,116
Electrocution: 1-in-5,000
Drowning:  1-in-8,942
Falling off a ladder: 1-in-10,010
Air Travel Accident: 1-in-20,000
Flood: 1-in-30,000
Legal Execution:  1-in-58,618
Tornado: 1-in-60,000
Lightning Strike: 1-in-83,930
Terrorist Attack: 1-in-88,000
And skipping ahead:
Tsunami: 1-in-500,000
Fireworks Discharge:  1-in-615,488
So guns, cars, ladders, and the planes themselves are more likely to kill us than terrorists. Knowing that, how do we justify this:

Honestly Amtrak is sitting on a goldmine of advertising here.
