MORE GOOD NEWS TODAY!
the fetal pain, 20 week abortion ban that was without a doubt going to pass in Georgia is now dead. Ga is safe for one more year.
Are we totally sure? Because the most recent article I could find on the bill said it was stalled and you could read this optimistically as ‘dead’. But it seemed like House legislators weren’t ruling out trying to pass it before Thursday when the session is over…
That’s what I get for not double-checking. Here’s the deal: the Georgia Senate has passed a “watered-down” fetal pain bill. There are now exceptions for fatal congenital or chromosomal defects, as well as the mental and physical health of the pregnant person. Since the Senate altered the original bill passed by the House, it now goes back to the House, where the House Speaker has to create a conference committee so both chambers can come to a compromise, then vote again. They have two days before the General Assembly adjourns for the year. If they don’t accomplish this by Thursday, the bill will fail.

Ballistics evidence used to convict Davis has since been debunked. Another witness has since emerged as a plausible suspect in the murder. Three jurors on the case now say that if they knew then what they know now, they would not have voted to convict. Davis was quite possibly innocent, but that was hardly the point. As expressed by the popular Twitter hash-tag, the problem was quite simply that there was #TooMuchDoubt.

I do not want to comprehend what kind of country we are when this is allowed to happen.
I am really in an unpleasant state of shock right now.
I had the feeling that this would happen, but I dared to harbor the hope that justice would be served and the voice of the people heard.
Now I am disgusted at the precedent this sets.
I am saddened and angered that this was allowed to happen.
I am frightened for so many people.
